Our chickens currently include the following breeds:

Amber-link– (large brown eggs / sometimes  double yoked) – The Dekalb Amberlink is very popular among free-range and cruelty free farmers.  Not only is this a hearty, lovable, docile bird; but here productivity is often as high as 290 eggs in her first year.  She gives beautiful rich brown eggs with a thick shell which adds to shelf life.  With excellent feather retention, she is the bird of choice for appearance minded farmers who keep their birds after peek performance fades.

Although we do not encourage the practice, commercial producers report a decreased need to trim beaks when the Amberlink is raised in crowded conditions.  We mention this only because it speaks to the bird’s social disposition.

The amberlink is a reverse-cross / Rhode based hybrid rather than a recognized breed.  It was popular in the United States in the early 70s, faded from popularity as the mass production houses took over the market, and is now making a come back with free-range farms and small homestead flocks.

Ameraucana / aka Americana – (blue/green eggs)  – This fairly hard to find fowl should not to be confused with the generic Easter Egger, the Americana has been recognized as a unique breed since 1984.  Sometimes confused with the rumples Araucana, the Americaucana actually draws part of its name from the words American and Araucana.

Blue Splash Cochin Giants – A fairly rare breed to find, these heavily feathered foot fowl should be called “Gentle Giants” to reflect their relaxed nature.  They are family centered chicken, displaying very few of the characteristics inherent to more commercial breeds.

Blue Splash Marans – Average to very dark brown eggs, feather feet.

Buff Brahma – (brown eggs) -  The Buff Brahma chicken is the most recient variety to be recognized in the United States.  This makes them a bit harder to find.  Their most striking visual features include their laced hackles and feathered feet.  Personality wise, Brahma hens can become pets if given enough attention and they are quick to sit the eggs of other fowl and adopt their young. Both hen and roosters are extremely fast.  So if you are going to free range them, it would be a good idea to have a very good relationship or you might never be able to catch them.

Phoenix – An amazing breed from Japan, the Phoenix rooster can reportedly grow its tail feathers up to 20 feet in length.

Polish Top Hat – Black and white & Bufflace

Rhode Island Reds – (brown eggs) – A great choice for small flock owners.  Rhode Island Red chickens are good layers and fairly hardy.  Some of the cocks can be more aggressive than other breeds, but with the right conditioning they are great birds.
